And I’m not talking about what job do you want to have…
A more appropriate way to ask this question may be this…
“How do you want your life to be like when you “grow up?”
A lot of adults don’t particularly enjoy their lives these days. They followed the rules.
They went to school and tried to get good grades…
so that they could get into a good college…
so that they could get a good job with a good company…
so they could provide a good home for their family and in the end…be happy.
But the path that they took, that was suppose to lead to happiness, seems to have lead many to being stuck in the “rat race.”
Do you want something different?
If so, you may need to take a different path. You may need to learn things that are DIFFERENT than what others around you have learned. You may need to think differently so that the outcomes of your life… can be different.
Now, Am I saying that you shouldn’t get good grades and try to go the the best college you can go to.
I am most certainly not…
But, it may be wise to reconsider blindly, without question, following the path that was described above.
Why?…
Because that path may not lead to where you might think it will… As many people that have been down that road will attest.
What I am saying is that proactively taking your fate into your own hands may be a way to escape the rat race that so many have fallen into.
This site is an effort to help young people see alternatives…
Learn skills and techniques and tactics that can allow them to shape their futures as they see fit.
You have an enormous potential inside of and ahead of you.
If you are so inclined, spend a little time with us and see what’s possible with just a slight shift in your thinking.
There are somethings that you can learn in this community that can quite literally change your life for the better…
… the skills and techniques of building businesses, being entreprenurial and improving “financial literacy.”
What is financial literacy?
People’s concept, understanding and familiarity with money.
We want to help young people understand what may be better ways to use money… make it and interact with it.
Let me give you an example…
When I was in college, I didn’t know very much about money or credit or savings… or any of that stuff. My parents never taught me much about it and I didn’t learn it in school.
On the other hand, my best friend’s dad was the vice president of a local bank. His dad had spent a lot of time teaching my friend about finances.
We would often run errands together and every two weeks my friend would go to Edward Jones to make contributions to his retirement and savings accounts. We were 19 and 20 years old and I thought that he was CRAZY. Why would he be thinking about retirement?
But he knew some things that I didn’t. He was smarter about money than I was and when the time came, it paid off for him.
Each of us started our separate companies a few years after we finished school. When we did this, I had very little capital (money) to work with and as a result, things were difficult in those first years. My friend, on the other hand, had almost 250,000 thousand dollars to work with…
That was a huge life lesson for me…
So whether its saving for college or capital for business opportunities or simply knowing how to use credit, I feel like there is a huge need to help young people know how to interact with money better. The group is going to be an attempt to teach some useful money making and managing theory…
But we will also be identifying “passion projects” that the members can engage in and go out into the community and apply this theory to and do business activity which creates funds for causes that they care about.
Once a person knows how to make money for organizations they care about, they can use that skill set to make money for themselves.
